Sumario:One of the sermons by St. Augustine rcecently discovered in Erfurt deals with St. Cyprian on the occasion of his yearly feast on September 14th. Interestingly, we already possess eleven other Augustinian sermons on the same subject. In this contribution, the new sermon is analyzed and compared with the other sermons. It is dicussed how Augustine managed to treat the same subject over and again without merely repeating himself or losing his motivation as a teacher. His own ideas on teaching elementary instruction, as given in De catechizandis rudibus, provide a suitable context here. The sermons on Cyprian can be seen as a case study of Augustinian preaching practice.
