Description
Summary:Suppary : In this article the A. proposes to examine the identity of the angel in the 'supplices' prayer in the first Eucharistic prayer of the Mass, called the 'Roman Canon'. The question is, could it be Christ himself, as a 'Messenger' of God the Father, who is taking up the sactrifice to the heavenly altar, or is it a spiritual creature of God, an angel, who is participating in the liturgical celebration of the Church? The A. went back to the origins of christian liturgy , looing at ancient liturgical prayers, texts of the Church fathers and other possible influences for the development of the Roman Eucharistic prayer.
