description L'article étudie le développement de la notion des droits de l'homme depuis le stoïcisme. L'important apport chrétien (l'homme créé à l'image de Dieu) a été éluchidé par les Pères de l'Église utilisant la philosophie grecque. Mais les droits de l'homme comme tel ne furent reconnus juridiquement que bien plus tard, chez les penseurs anglais, américains, français du XVIII° siècle, qui en ont sécularisé le fondement. L'A. distingue une conception libérale et une autre socialiste, mais reconnaît difficile de les classifier. L'accord manque quant à leur fondement. Leur proclamation est souvent instrumentale. L'A. retient comme plus essentiels: la liberté, l'égalité, la solidarité.
