Description
Summary:Intéressantes observations sur les paradoxes d'ordre rhétorique et d'ordre doctrinal qui abondent dans les oeuvres d'A. "What, then, are we to say in sum about Augustine's paradoxes? First that he was not afraid of the paradoxical. His rhetorician's training and his natural loking for the startling and challening encouraged him to enjoy the contemplation of intelectual impossibilities. Secondly we can say that while never profoundly original at a technical level in his resolutions of paradoxes, he is endlessly inventive in making them work for him theologically and homiletically" (p. 69).
