Summary: | The Avenue Bourguiba reports focus on Late Antiquity from the 5th-7th centuries AD, I, 2: presents a detailed account of the pottery recovered from the site with chapters on the Red-Slipped ware, amphorae, hand-mate ware, wheel-made kitchen wares, lamps, ceramic building materials and terra-cottas. In each case full quantified data about stratigraphic occurences are recorded, and all the major fabrics are petrologically defined in a attempt to assess origins. The fascicule as a whole is a major contribution to the study of trade, and a final chapter reviews the long distance trade and communications of Carthage in the period AD 400-650. The book contains abundant line drawings of pottery, distribution maps and photographs of the more elaborate decorative motifs. |
