The text id edited from three reliable MSS (pp. 169-187). In an introduction (pp. 131-168) the themes of life, of grace and of the capacities (both sensory and intellectual) of human nature are explored and the sources of Grosseteste's ideas discussed (Augustine, Aristotle, Avicenna, the De Spiritu et Anima). The mystical doctrine of the conference is dependent on the Mystical Theology of Ps.-Dionysius the Areopagite, which Grosseteste rendered in 1242-43, but the Dionysian symbols of cloud, darkness and desire are subordinated to the Augustinian theology of illumination.
