Summary: | This is the first critical edition of 2 Donatist hagiographical works, the Passio Marculi and the Passio Maximinai et Isaas written in the mid-4th century. The examination of the whole extant tradition proved to be of great value, especially because of the quality of many of the readings found in previously neglected manuscripts. Modifications have very often been made to the 'vulgata' and certain historical and chronological details of the narratives have been corrected or explained. Finally, a survey of the language and style has led to a rejection of the assumption that the Donatist Passiones were written by the same hand. |
