Description
Summary:L'argumentation d'Augustin contre les académiciens relève de l'éthique de la croyance: 'We ought to understand him not as attempting to refut the Academics by establishing infallible certainties, but as arguing that it is right and proper for even the unwise to assent to propositions known for certain' (p.243). L'échange avec Navigius en De beata vita, 2.7, 'intimates that the philosophizing person should have the right to assent to something that he could not deny without falling into self-deception: I am alive and have a body' (p.246).
