On the north shore of the harbor, remains of the late Roman quayside and associated streets and buildings were found. On an island site, south of the Roman street grid, remains buildings, from the 3rd tot the 6th Century, were exposed, as well as part of the city wall constructed during the reign of Theodosius II.
