'Love is the Hand of the Soul': The Grammar of Continence in Augustine's Doctrine of Christian Love

Augustine in his work presented continence as key to the righting of all human relationships, distinguishing by means of verb choice a false or problematic love that grasps its object to control it, and a right and true love that clings to its object and cannot be controlled or manipulated.
